Darkest Corners---part 1

2. Low life

Markus was finishing the last line of his essay when suddenly his mother called him. He went downstairs, to finish his breakfast and go to school. He had an important event to attend, so he gulped up the entire glass of milk and took down a big bite of his bread. "Woah! Slow down kid", Daniel, his father told him," do you have a train waiting for you?" "No, but I don't want to be late for school today, because it's the last day for my easy submission, and I don't want to miss the first prize". Saying this, he took another bite and the bread was almost finished. "How is your essay, honey?", his mother asked him. "Oh... it's kind of okay mom, at least this will win me a second prize", Markus answered smiling at her mom. " By the way, you remembered to pick up Isabella from her home, don't you?" Markus answered, "Yes I do, I have already called her". " Great, then we are ready for a family reunion, right?" said his father. Markus suddenly stood up and left the table, murmuring under his breath, "Family, huh?"

Leaving his home, he waited for his friend Stuart to come. After few minutes, Stuart finally arrived panting hard. "Yo, what's up man? Are you good?" "Yeah," he said holding his breath," got chased by some Street dogs for an unknown reason", Stuart replied. "And the reason is....", Markus prompted Stuart, who was now looking quite nervous and puzzled. " I was watching someone from outside", he said hurriedly. "Who is that person or more specifically the girl?"." Stella Norin", he replied in a low voice. "So you were watching someone who doesn't like you at all and is already in a serious relationship with Gareth", Markus said, knowing what will happen next. Immediately, he saw Stuart blushing and smiling, like a small 5-year-old girl, "Come on, Mark! She likes me a lot; although she had never talked to me, I can assure you she has something for me, in the core of her heart". "How do you know that??", asked Markus curiously. "I can read minds, Mark, other than teachers!" Markus laughed at his joke and went along. 

After walking for few minutes, they came to a crossing where they saw four policemen were standing along with an ambulance. They saw officer Attle talking to an old woman. They approached him and said," Good day, but Attle how is everything going?" Attle answered quickly, "You shouldn't be here, it's a serious crime scene." Markus was shocked," this is Bella's house, right? She lives with her mother Mrs Jones." Officer answered sadly, "Not lives,  lived- her mother was killed by a masked killer, and she is missing." Both of the kids were shocked, only two days ago they have seen Bella with her mom, going to the supermarket, and now she is dead, killed by a masked killer. Officer continued," Mrs Jones was found in the front door of her house, her throat was sliced open, her fingernails were plucked out and her eyeballs are found in the garbage can. Strangely, there is not a single sign of the killer." They saw the people taking out the dead body. Stuart pointed out to the front door," What's that?" Attle said," that's the only thing we have found so far." With the blood it was written," Apocalypsis venit cito!"
